Getting out, Have a question

Recommended Posts

Im not sure this is the right area but anyway, Maybe some of the more experience people in this hobby can answer this for me. Is it better to sell your aquarium as a complete setup or sell the tank and stand as one and all accessories separate?

It really depends what your selling. It's hard to get a good price for a full setup. Reef2reef is a good place to sell pumps and lights.

Hey Poolman, I see you're in Waterford, I live in Holly not that far from you. Maybe you know someone that might be looking at getting into the hobby that's local. Its the Cadlight 125g tank with stand. Then i went with trigger systems sump.

This is the build thread of it, nothing has changed expect for its a for months older but of course I would clean it all. I do still have about 13-14 fish left in the tank so it isn't broken down yet.

if someone really wanted it as a turn key they could have the fish if they wanted if not Im sure Moby Dick would take them.

Divide this # by 4 and you have your starting price :)

Yea everyone on other forums say I will get more if I sell the stuff separate instead of a complete system.

Most people don't want to drop 5k on a turn key setup. They'd rather go to TH buy junk and post pictures of ugly zoas and ask for an id. Lol

Damn bro. Your tank is sweet. Wish you wouldn’t get out. This was one sweet build for sure.

It's a sweet setup for sure, I just lost all interest :(, it happens. So here's the long story short why I'm selling this. So I start off with a 10 gallon IM all in one, I love the couple clowns and shrimp and few pieces of coral. Well thats fully stocked right, I want bigger and I want to have tangs. So everyone tells me go with the biggest you can afford, so I do. I think I'm close to 10g's at this point (with all the little things you dont even think about at the time). So everything is going great, I have a couple tangs, wrasse, clowns etc. Well the one tang breaks out in ich (I did QT him and I have multi QT tanks in my basement also) the tang dies and my whole tank is infested now. I didnt lose everything, my clowns and wrasse were ok. So I guess I should of pulled the clowns and wrasse out of the tank and left it fallow for 2 month or whatever but I didnt. So about a month goes by and I start replacing the tangs, not all at once of course. Everything is fine and BAM ICH again, not only ich but my powder brown had this white looking fuzzy stuff all over him and he didnt make it.  So I'm just done with tangs lol! I want my 10 or 20 gallon back with a couple clowns and call it good.

Totally know the feeling. I had this happen to me in my new tank. I’m currently down to 2 chromis that I’ve had for years.

It’s easy to get turned off after a major loss like you experienced. Hell its crossed my mind plenty of times. But this hobby pulls me back in every time.

I hope you change your mind and keep this setup. If not my recommendation is to break it up.

I dealt with Ick when a few months after I set up my tank. I had already quarantined all my fish and ended up picking up a tang locally that someone had had for over a year. I assumed that it was safe to put it in to my main display. Well that was a bad idea.

My wife called me at work one day and told me that my fish all had white spots. The one that had the most ick was the new fish.
I put my fish back in quarantine with Coppermine but ended up losing most of them.
I went 80 days without fish in my main display. I haven’t had any reoccurrence it has been a year and a half.

I have bought most of my new fish from Madhu in San Jose. He does TTM along with Prazi. He recommends quarantine the fish for a few more weeks even though he as treated them.

This was the first time in 18 years in the hobby I have ever had to deal with Ick.
You probably still have ick  parasite in your main display. You will need to go fishless for a minimum of 75 days. Coral and inverts are not effected.
I know it a hard thing to deal with. I lost a lot of high end fish.

You have a really nice setup so take some time to think about what you really want to do.
Either way good look with whatever you decide.

I lost my flame fin tang and he had no spots on him at all. He was fine and laying dead this morning. I really dont know what the hell is going on. Its that kinda thing that really makes me think I'm not good at this hobby.

In this hobby their are a ton of things that can happen. The big thing is to learn from experience. That’s what’s cool about a forum.

You can post ask for help with what your issues are and we can all chime in and give you pointers.
